As immigration continues to fuel the growth of central Ohio, an increasing number of people need to learn English as a Second Language for use in their daily lives. Further, language instruction is becoming more and more important for businesses and community service organizations in the central Ohio area.
Columbus State can help individuals, companies and groups effectively learn to communicate in a foreign language or strengthen skills in spoken and written English as a Second Language.
The non-credit courses in the Basic English as a Second Language program are designed to provide a foundation of spoken and written English. Courses are offered on an open-enrollment basis each term. They are also available by contract with businesses or organizations in central Ohio.
A placement test is needed in order to determine the starting level for the Basic English classes. Click on the “Testing” link on the left for information about testing schedules and costs.
These non-credit courses are designed to provide a basic level of conversational skill and cultural understanding. By the end of these classes, students will be able to ask for and provide basic information as well as express simple statements on a variety of topics.
Customizable courses for businesses: Contact the Language Institute at 614/287-5448 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be happy to meet with you to discuss how best to meet your needs for language and culture instruction.
Non-credit courses: The Language Institute offers non-credit courses. If you’re looking for credit courses that lead to a degree or qualify for financial aid, contact Columbus State’s Modern Languages Department.
