CSCC Prior Learning Assessment

Columbus State Community College offers students the opportunity to have credit awarded for life experience learning. This process is called Prior Learning Assessment. This credit is awarded in recognition of the attainment of knowledge and skills judged to be of collegiate level AND equivalent to a course(s) offered by Columbus State Community College.

Prior Learning Assessment is a comprehensive process that allows students to apply previous learning from a variety of sources towards completion of a college degree. It is important for students to understand that the College grants credit for demonstrated learning, not merely for previous experiences or employment. In order to obtain credit the student must be able to provide documentation to verify learning that matches the course objectives. This documentation takes the form of a portfolio that is completed by the student, under the advisement of a CSCC subject specialist. The portfolio is then evaluated to determine if credit is awarded.
