“Purple Week” is May 14-17

group photoSpending time with friends and sharing the experience not only creates a memory – it can help in the fight against cancer. Participate in Relay For Life and help give others a longer lifetime of memories. The Columbus State Mini Relay for Life will be held Thursday, May 17, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. You can form a team or join a team by May 12 and participate! It’s also Paint the Campus Purple Week throughout May 14-17. Wear purple—it’s the color that represents the fight against all types of cancer! All week long we’ll be handing out candy, having contests and offering prizes! If you’d like more information about Purple Week or the Mini Relay for Life, contact Rachel Rockwell in the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership, Nestor Hall Room 116.

Get informed and advised during Semesters Week!

graphicYou’ll also be able to get ready for the Switch to Semesters—coming this August—by attending a semesters information session, a Degree Audit Report demonstration, or an online chat session ( for online students only) during Semesters Week, May 14-17. Plenty of Semesters information will also be available at Spring Fling, May 16 on the Columbus Campus; May 17 on the Delaware Campus.

You’ll find out why it’s important to get informed and advised. Registering is a snap once you know what classes you need to take! Semesters are 5 weeks longer than quarters and there are only 3 semesters per year.

You’ll have to take more to be sure. Classes that is! Many semester classes earn only 3 credits, and you will need more to be a full-time student. Semester-based degree programs require only 60-73 credit hours to complete, so you take fewer semesters, but more classes.

Finally, you should stay on track—following your Plan of Study will help you finish your degree on time. Taking a term off can delay your career plans and may increase your costs. Summer semesters are slightly shorter, and can help you get ahead or catch up on your Plan of Study!
