Day of Silence is April 19

Columbus State will participate in the annual Day of Silence on Thursday, April 19.  To show your commitment to ending the silence faced by so many LGBT youth and adults due to anti-LGBT bullying, please make sure to get involved in one of the following ways:

Sign your name (and a message if desired) on one of many Day of Silence ally boards that will be located around Columbus State buildings for the remainder of the week (including Delaware, Dublin, Gahanna and Westerville).

Attend one of MANY Day of Silence events and activities on Thursday and Friday, which have been sponsored by Diversity and Study Abroad Programs, the Spectrum LGBT ERG and Cougar Pride, the student LGBT group:

Silent Sounding Board – TL Lobby on April 19 at noon.
Bake Sale – TL Lobby on April 19 starting at noon.
Break the Silence event – Library Studio on April 19 at 5 p.m.
Metamorphosis drag show – NH Auditorium on April 20 at 7 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public.

Acloché to offer resume and cover letter writing workshop next week

Does your resume say what employers want to hear? Acloché Staffing will conduct a free Resume & Cover Letter Writing Workshop on Thursday, April 26, from 3:30 – 4:00 p.m. in Eibling Hall Room 101.  If you are interested in learning more about writing your resume and cover letters, please contact Esther Cherry, from Acloché, at (614)287-5279, or come to Nestor Hall, Room 108 to sign-up.  Seating is limited.

Recycling on campus will soon pay for itself

A new investment by Columbus State will pay for itself over time. The college just invested in a cardboard “baler” that can compact all types of cardboard into a solid, wire-tied bale. Now, instead of paying to have someone pick up our cardboard waste, we're able to sell it. See how it works close up here:

Volleyball player honored

Dani TurnerDani Turner

Dani Turner, a member of the Cougar Women’s Volleyball Team, was recently named the All-American 2012 Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year.

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) gave 225 college and high school athletes the prestigious award in 2012.  Turner was recognized for overcoming a foot injury that restricted her three-sport playing time in high school.  At Columbus State, Turner relied on weight training to resume her volleyball career, and was also able to maintain her 3.5 GPA throughout the season.
