Get ready for a summer of success with the Student Success Series

booklet cover

At Columbus State, we provide a number of learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

From developing your skill set, to getting involved on campus, our new Student Success Series booklet makes it easy for you to find valuable resources – all in one spot. The booklet brings together resources and workshops to help you make the most of your Columbus State experience.

Some of the topics include academic assistance and resources, campus involvement, career planning, study abroad/travel opportunities, wellness classes and intramurals.

In addition to getting great information and meeting new friends, you can also use these events to build your resume and transcript. Any workshop with the BLUEprint designation will be documented for your records. The booklet can be found online here.

Ohio Growth Summit celebrates 10th anniversary June
4 – 5

Starting new businesses and creating jobs will once again be the theme of the annual Ohio Growth Summit in Columbus. Started in 2004 by the Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Columbus State, the event brings entrepreneurs and business owners together to help provide insight and strategy on how to start a business.

“During these still-challenging economic times it’s more important than ever for business owners - and aspiring business owners - to be innovative,” says Michael Bowers, Director of Workforce Development at Columbus State. “Business growth helps provide more jobs, higher wages, and a better economy for the region.”

The two-day summit kicks off at noon, Wednesday, June 4, at the Center for Workforce Development, 315 Cleveland Ave.  Tell us why you want to attend this year's Ohio Growth Summit and be entered to win a free ticket! We will message the winner(s) via their Facebook account next Friday, May 30—so stay tuned! Learn more about the Summit at: . You can respond at the Columbus State Facebook page here!

Lights are on at the Grove and Cleveland crossing

While the final touches are being made to the three-year Columbus Crossroads project on I-71 and I-670, one portion that provides a big benefit for the Columbus Campus is the completion of the crosswalk signal at Cleveland Avenue and Grove Street. You should no longer have to step onto Cleveland Avenue “just hoping” that drivers will yield.

Officials at the college have been working with the City of Columbus for years to get the pedestrian signal for the busy crosswalk. The massive road construction and improvements connected to the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Columbus Crossroads project provided a timely window for the city to upgrade the intersection. The upgrade also includes an important left turn lane on southbound Cleveland Avenue for vehicles turning into campus. The signal went fully operational on May 21.

Library offers new website

The Columbus State Library now has a freshly revamped and user-friendly website, complete with a “Find It Fast!” feature that lets you search for high-quality sources, whether you need articles, books, eBooks, or textbooks.

Hot items like citation guides and the Library’s latest social media posts and events are also featured on the opening screen, and the “About Us” FAQ page tackles several must-know library topics. Librarians recommend updating any bookmarks or links in Blackboard, although the old URLs will still redirect to the new site.

The Columbus State Bookstore has created an additional area of seating for those seeking a quiet spot to eat lunch or have a snack from the Café. The seating area is located on the first floor near the elevators-perfect for rainy summer afternoons.  The Cafeteria in Union Hall will be closed for remodeling during the Summer Semester until August 1. Other food options during the summer include food trucks which will be parked near the Library, the food carts that are located in other areas of campus, and the Bookstore Café!
