Faculty approve new three-year contract
Columbus State and the Columbus State Education Association (CSEA) have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract. The CSEA union represents the College’s 335 full-time faculty members. Elements of the new contract include a 2 percent salary increase and a $1,500 one-time compensation for the first year and a guarantee of at least a 1 percent salary increase in each of the subsequent years. In addition, the agreement includes provisions that advance the College’s student success agenda.
“Our faculty members demonstrate great leadership every day, and the central role they play is reflected in this agreement,” said President David Harrison. “I appreciate our ability to work together to develop an agreement that reflects our shared commitment to helping students succeed.”
Bus Rapid Transit coming to Cleveland Ave.
Preliminary design and engineering is currently underway by COTA on the proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project that will enhance and greatly speed up bus travel from downtown to Rte. 161 and north to Polaris Parkway.
The new line will run down Cleveland Avenue every 10 minutes during peak hours, using coordinated traffic signals and bus-only lanes to reduce the time of the trip by 20 percent. The new service will complement Local Line 1—the Cleveland/Livingston route—COTA’s second busiest bus line. It will make two stops on the Columbus State campus.
Final designs will be ready in 2015, but the BRT service isn’t planned to begin until September of 2017. To hear more about the project and how it will impact Columbus State, you can watch this video.
