AQIP Action Projects

 Action Projects for 2015/2016

Action Projects provide assurance of the college's ongoing commitment to the Academic Quality Improvement Program, the college's accreditation pathway. Bruce Massis, Accreditation Liaison Officer, recently announced that President Harrison and the Cabinet have selected the three new projects for the coming year.

As a result of participating in a Strategy Forum in April, an Action Project titled, “Aligning and Communicating Strategic Priorities” is Columbus State’s first project for 2016. Following a process that was implemented in 2015 - where Action Projects were selected from a list of Student Success Innovation efforts - two additional Action Projects were selected. They are:

  • ALEKS Placement Boot Camp  Contacts: T.J. Duda, Beth Barnett, Julie Hallas, Lauren Jones, Phil McClean
ALEKS will improve student success by offering a better mathematics placement process to incoming students.  Key features include customized individual test preparation for each student, and several opportunities for re-testing after additional preparation.  The goal is for students to be able to advance one or more levels, saving them both time and money and also increasing the chance of persistence toward a degree.
ALEKS is a Category 1 – Helping Students Learn project.
  • Orientation and First Year Mobile App Development  Contacts: Desiree Polk-Bland, Molly Ward
The Orientation Guidebook App is an Advising Department pilot project.  It uses a custom phone app for Apple and Android phones to link new traditional students to college resources and regular Advising messages. The project is supported by the Student Success and Innovation Fund.
First Mobile App is a Category 2 – Meeting Student and Other Stakeholder Needs project.

  • Aligning and Communicating Strategic Priorities  Contacts: Jennifer Anderson, Kelly Weir, David Tom
This action project will improve planning, organization, process documentation, communication, identifying targets and using data to inform decision-making.  Further, it will map an enhanced planning and budgeting process and develop a 12-month planning calendar that will improve and clarify processes that ensure that leaders set directions that are aligned with the mission, vision and values of the college.
Aligning and Communicating is a Category 4 – Planning and Leading project.
