1. What GPA do I need?
You need to have at least a 2.25 GPA to apply.

2. Is the practical nurse (PN) program full-time or part-time?
The PN program is a part-time program with courses being held in the evenings and on weekends.

3. Does CSCC have a full-time practical nurse program?
No, CSCC does not have a full-time curriculum for the PN program.

4.  How many quarters is the part-time PN program?
The PN program is seven quarters or approximately 21 months in length.

5. When are the courses for the part-time evening practical nurse program?
Practical nurse courses may be scheduled Monday through Friday from 4:00pm – 10:00pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am – 5pm.

6.  Is the Practical Nursing program offered at a campus other than main campus?
Yes, it is also offered at Tolles Technical School, located in Madison County, west of Columbus.

7.  Can some PNUR classes be taken at Main campus and some at Tolles?
No, if you are accepted at main campus, all of your PNUR classes will be taken on main campus.  If you are accepted at Tolles, all of your PNUR classes will be taken at Tolles.

8. What pre-requisite courses need to be completed before I can apply to the PN program?
There are 3 courses that need to be taken or at least registered for before applying to the PN program:

· NURC 101, Nurse Aide Training (formerly MULT 120)

o      If the state-approved course was taken in a long-term care facility, student will need to submit a copy of their certificate of completion or their card from the Ohio Department of Health. Contact 614-287-5387.

o      MULT 128 is acceptable for Mount Carmel Health employees

·  Medical Terminology (MULT 101).

o      Students may have prior-learning experience from another program that meets this requirement. Contact faculty at 287-3855 for additional information.

o      Students may test out of this course. Contact 614-287-3855 for further information. There is a $50 fee for testing out of a course.

·  BIO 100, Intro to Biological Sciences, high school biology in the past 5 years, or , or a college level biology

 

9. When are students admitted into the practical nurse program?
Students are admitted into the PN program Spring and Autumn quarters. Students admitted into the Spring quarter cohort will have their first practical nursing courses the following Summer quarter; students admitted into the Autumn cohort will have their first nursing courses the following Winter quarter.

10. Do the practical nurse program courses need to be taken in order?
Yes, the PN courses are sequential. If a student has to skip a quarter because of an emergency or an unforeseen event, the student is considered out of sequence and will need to meet with his/her program advisor before reapplying to the PN program.

11. When are applications for admission accepted?
The application period for Autumn 2009 will begin in February 2009.

12. Is there a waiting list for the PN program?
No, there is no waiting list for the program. Applications are accepted until the roster is full.

13. What is the cost of the PN program, excluding pre-requisite courses?

·      Currently tuition is $79 per credit hour for in-state students. The program is 55 credit hours. Therefore tuition is estimated at $7,300 for in-state students, which includes fees, books, equipment and uniforms.

·      Following graduation from the PN program the fee for the State Board of Nursing exam is $250.00.

14. How many hours per week will students be in either lecture, lab or clinical?
Students will spend the following amount of time each week in either lecture, lab, or clinical:

PNUR 100            1 Hour per week

PNUR 101            5 hours per week

PNUR 102            12 hours per week

PNUR 103            15 hours per week

PNUR 104            15 hours per week

PNUR 105            19 hours per week

PNUR 121            4 hours per week

PNUR 122            4 hours per week

PNUR 190            1 hour per week

15. When should I take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET)?
Students should take the NET after they take the COMPASS placement test and any needed developmental courses.

16. What NET scores do I need to attain?
You need to attain a 55 composite score in both Math and Reading Comprehension.

13.  17. Should I use the Study Guide before taking the NET?
Yes, students who study the NET Study Guide score better on the NET. Also, students should be rested before taking the NET. There are seven parts to the NET, but we look at the Reading Comprehension and Math scores only. There is also lots of help at eriworld.com, the test publisher.

14.  18. If I have taken MATH 102 or 103, do I need to take MATH 100?
Yes. MATH 100 is Calculations and Dosages and must be taken unless you have had a course on calculating dosages for medications.

15.  19. Can COMM 105, Speech, be substituted for COMM 110, Conference and Group Discussion?
Yes.

16.  20. What other classes can I substitute for SSCI 101 (Cultural Diversity)?
You may substitute SSCI 100, 102, 104 or 105 only.
