What is the Block Program?

The Block Program is a retention program offered during specified quarters for beginning students.  Participation in this program often helps students attain stronger academic skills and provides a great support system, which includes other students, instructors and an academic advisor. Learners in the Block Program enroll in the same three courses.  A full-time (12 credit hour) schedule consists of the following courses:

DEV 031: Pre-Algebra,
DEV 041: Basic Communication Skills, and

DEV 090: College Success Skills.

How will I benefit from the Block Program?

ü      Make New Friends

You will be part of a small group of students who share common experiences and support each other during that critical first quarter.

ü      Receive Personal Attention

You will engage in one-on-one interaction with your instructors who are dedicated to helping you succeed at Columbus State.  Also, you will meet with the Academic Counselor who will monitor your academic progress.

ü      Develop Skills for College Success

You will enroll in a class that is designed to answer your questions about college and academics, as well as help you to adjust to college life. Effective study skills, goal-setting, time management and how to handle test anxiety are some of the topics you will master in the class.

What time will the classes be offered?

For the days and times these courses will be offered, please contact Dale Gresson, Academic Advisor.
