Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture is a prosthesis that can be readily
placed in the mouth and removed by the wearer. A removable partial
denture has clasps that hold it to the natural teeth in the mouth. It is
usually made of cast metal with plastic bases and teeth.
The purpose of the removable partial denture is to:
- Restore function
- Improve or restore appearance
- Preserve and maintain the remaining oral structures
The design of a partial denture, including all of its component
parts, determines its comfort, its efficiency, and, most important,
whether it will be a therapeutic appliance promoting oral health, or
will become a destructive influence. All partial dentures must be
designed to preserve and maintain what remains as well as fill in the
missing spaces.
