Basic English Placement Test
The Language Institute provides Basic English as a Second Language courses for individuals needing to learn and communicate in English as their second language. There are several basic through advanced-level courses to assist an individual through their language development needs. A placement test (BEPT) is required in order to determine the starting level for these courses.
Registration for Basic English Placement Test is at the Information Center located in the Center for Workforce Development building (WD), first floor, room 1090. There is a $10.00 Testing Fee for the BEPT and payable at the Information Center.
If a student wishes to retake the BEPT, he/she may do so. If it has been less than three months since taking the BEPT for the first time, the Testing Fee is $15.00. BEPT scores are good for one year, unless there is intervening coursework. If there has been no BEPT and no coursework for the prior year, the student will need to retake the BEPT to ensure correct course placement.
Bring the Test Registration Payment Receipt to the Testing & Talent Assessment Center located in the Center for Workforce Development building (WD), second floor, room 223 to schedule a date and time to take the test. Walk-in appointments for testing are accepted during the times below:
Monday – Thursday: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm
Friday and Saturday: 8:30 am – 2:00 pm
The Test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. The candidate receives the test score result upon completion and will be directed to the Information Center to register for appropriate level Basic English as a Second Language course.
