Combined Charitable Giving Campaign finishes strongThe Columbus State Combined Giving Campaign, formerly known as the United Way Campaign, has raised more than $18,000 for the four federations involved: The United Way, Community Shares of Mid Ohio, Community Health Charities and Earth Share.   This represents a significant increase over last year's total. Thanks to every employee of Columbus State who took the time to donate to these worthy causes in 2006.

New Director of Student Activities comes from COTCTimeka Thomas Rashid will join Columbus State Winter Quarter as the new Director of Student Activities and Athletics.  Rashid comes from OSU Newark-Central Ohio Technical College, where she served as Assistant Director of Student Affairs.  She has administrative and professional staff supervisory experience in a number of areas, including student activities, athletics, recreation, judicial, orientation, first year experience, and multicultural programs. She has also worked at Otterbein College and Ohio State, and is currently completing her doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University.

AQIP Action Project Teams FormingAction Project Teams will be selected by January 10. If you would like to commit to helping develop an AQIP project proposal over the next few months, please complete the Action Project Volunteer Form by January 5 and send it to Sunday Zidonis (FR 252).   Please keep in mind there will be a significant time commitment required for participation on these teams.

This month offers a practical guide on "How to Handle Holiday Stress" from LiveScience. Also featured is a healthy "good luck" recipe using black-eyed peas from the American Institute for Cancer Research for the New Year.

Fee Waivers due in HR Dec. 21Employee/Dependent fee waivers should be submitted to the Human Resources office by Thursday, December 21 at the close of business (4:30 p.m.) to guarantee that they are processed before late fees are assessed.     

Lego League Fun The Virtual Creators team test out their Lego robot in the practice pit before the competition at the First Lego League annual competition held at Columbus State on December 9. Twenty teams and more than 150 middle school students from area schools participated.


Disaster planning seminar features DC expert

Hilary Styron, Director of the Emergency Preparedness Initiative for the National Organization on Disability, Washington DC, spoke to 140 advocates for the disabled and members of fire, law enforcement and emergency management agencies December 7 about the needs of those in our society that need special assistance in a disaster situations. Using photos taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Styron made the point that emergency plans must include input for the disabled in order to be effective.
