Disability Services offers training on new literacy software
Columbus State’s Disability Services will hold training sessions for students, faculty and staff on their new software called “Read & Write GOLD.” The product is support software that helps individuals with reading or writing difficulties, learning disabilities, or those who speak English as their second language. This literacy software can read online courses, textbooks, websites, placement tests, and more. It can enlarge and highlight text as it reads aloud and increase reading comprehension. It can speak and translate many different languages and has a phonetic spell checker and a word-prediction tool. Training times are on Friday, September 7 at 8:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Eibling 101. Register by emailing Lori Trent.
Think fall with Weight Watchers
Get ready for fall with Weight Watchers! Columbus State’s next Weight Watchers at Work program session will start Tuesday, September 11, at 12:00 p.m. in the DX Conference Room, 3rd floor. Columbus State needs a minimum of 20 participants to sign up in order to keep this opportunity for employees. Last PBJ jazz concert of year is Saturday
The PBJ & Jazz summer series will present their final concert in the Topiary Park at noon on Saturday, September 8. The Topiary Park is located at 480 E. Town St. The free one-hour concert will feature the Vernon Hairston Trio with Mary McClendon. The concerts are sponsored by the Discovery Special Improvement District, The Columbus Foundation, The Topiary Park, and the Friends of the Library.
Joel Nelson
Joel Nelson, video web developer in Columbus State's Instructional Technologies department, will graduate Sunday with a Master of Science in Marketing and Communication from Franklin University. His program included learning communication techniques using new media, emerging technologies, and visual design principles.
Lots of lots closed Sunday
The Columbus State grounds crew will be painting many parking lots on Sunday, September 9, in case you might be on campus this weekend. The lots to be closed for painting are: 11-S, 12-S, 14-S, 16-S, 18-V, 19-H, 24-E, and 21-S.
