What is Logistics?
Logistics is the movement and storage of goods from the beginning to the end of the supply chain. It means having the right thing, at the right place, at the right time.
Why a Career in Logistics?
It is a high-growth, emerging industry. According to the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, demand for workers is increasing with an estimated 17,000 additional workers needed in Columbus alone between 2010 and 2013. 7.8% of Ohio’s workforce is employed in Logistics.
Career path opportunities. The scope of Logistics is vast and cannot be confined to any particular operation, thus creating multiple career paths. One can have focused career growth in Sales, Marketing, Administration, Customer Service, Documentation, Human Resources, Operations, Finance, IT, and more!
Sustainable industry. Logistics is a very vital part of human life in that it is the engine which helps to deliver every requirement on earth – be it food, clothing, detergent, medicine, newspapers, machinery or raw material – from point of origin to point of consumption, anywhere in the world.
What is LogisticsART?
The “ART” in LogisticsART stands for Attracting & Retaining Talent and is a grant-funded program designed to train dislocated, unemployed, and veterans in basic Logistics concepts, as well as provide them with the tools necessary to obtain employment. The program is available in Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Madison, Morrow, Licking, Pickaway and Union counties until February of 2013. Participants who qualify participate at no cost to the individual.
Program participation does NOT guarantee employment.
What’s in it for me?
- 3 solid weeks of training in foundational Logistics concepts. Topics include: Forklift, RF Scanning, Safety, Resume Writing, Behavioral Interviewing, and Customer Service. Training will take place at employer sites and Columbus State Community College, Columbus Campus.
- Obtain a finished, professional resume.
- Certifications. Opportunity to obtain a “National” Logistics Certification, Columbus State Community College Coursework Certifications, and Forklift Training Certification.
- Interaction with and exposure to multiple employers and staffing agencies.
- Free parking and transportation to employer sites.
- Earn college credit. 3 credit hours applicable towards Columbus State program coursework.

Am I eligible?
To qualify for participation in the LogisticsART Program, individuals must be unemployed, have a high school diploma or GED, be legally able to work within the United States, and pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

Contact The Center for Workforce Development, Columbus State Community College at (614) 287-2434 or register for an orientation session. Class schedules vary from month to month for the duration of the grant.
