President’s In-Service presentation online now
Dr. Harrison’s presentation from last Wednesday’s In-Service is now online for review. Included in the presentation was a call for participants in the Strategic Plan’s Community Engagement and Workforce Development focus groups (Slide 57). CPR classes offered to employees in December
HeartSaver CPR (for non-healthcare providers) will be offered to Columbus State employees on December 18. In this hands-on class, participants will learn Adult CPR and be ready to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) operation will also be covered.
CPR Recertification for Healthcare Providers, will beoffered on December 20, and is based on the guidelines and standards set forth by the American Heart Association in their document Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. The course covers adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillation (AED), use of a bag valve mask, and treating foreign body airway obstruction. 2010 Guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiovascular care are presented. The course fulfills the required CPR certification for healthcare providers.

Kerr presents at national nursing summit
Barbara Kerr, associate professor in the Nursing Department, recently presented a poster session at the National League of Nursing Education Summit in Anaheim, California. The presentation was titled "An Interactive Strategy Designed to Teach Preoperative Care, Anesthesia and Postoperative Care." Kerr offered the session based on the interactive teaching strategies developed for her class in the Nursing Certificate Program.
Columbus State’s annual participation in the Combined Charitable Giving Campaign – which consists of the United Way, the United Way of Delaware County, Earth Share of Ohio, Community Share of Mid Ohio, Community Health Share of Ohio, and America’s Charities—has begun! You can select to donate to any of the organizations included in the Guidebook, and donate by payroll deduction or by check. Simply go onto the Intranet, where you will see the first two links are the Pledge Form and the Charitable Giving Guidebook (Intranet is not available off campus). Print your pledge form and send the completed form to Barb Smith-Allen, in Franklin Hall Room 132.
Transfer Fair is Thursday!
Encourage your students to attend the 2012 Transfer Fair this Thursday, October 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall Student Lounges. More than 50 four-year colleges and universities will send their representatives to discuss transfer options for our students to complete their bachelor’s degrees. Transfer is a significant measure of student success, so let’s get plenty of students to the Transfer Fair on Thursday to “shop their options!”
Backstage at the Lincoln offers Carpe Diem Thursday
Columbus State partners with our neighbors at the Lincoln Theatre, 769 E. Long St. The Lincoln will offer the second in a series of concerts called Back Stage at the Lincoln, on Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m. when the band Carpe Diem, featuring Speak Williams, will perform.
