Men’s team wins at Nationals in Danville, Ill.  Coach Carlisle The Cougar Men’s Basketball team won their first-round game against Erie Community College, 67-64 at the NCJAA Division II National Tournament yesterday at Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill. Lecture on Negro Baseball League April 1  Byron Motley
Byron Motley will give a presentation on "An American Legacy: The Negro Baseball League,” Tuesday, April 1, at 4 p.m. in the WD Ballroom, sponsored in part by the Huntington Lecture Series. The presentation is free and open to the public. Byron is the son of Bob Motley, who was a chief umpire in the Negro Leagues for several years, so he grew up on many of these stories that are now being retold.
Byron Motley is a native of Kansas City and combines his talents as an entertainer with his skills as a storyteller to deliver performances that are musical, historical and educational. His presentations are amusing and moving. Motley added filmmaker to his credits when he created and produced the TV documentary “Oh, How They Lived—Stories of the Negro Leagues.” It was recorded at Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on February 1, 2001. Byron is the son of Bob Motley, who was a chief umpire in the Negro Leagues for several years, so he grew up on many of these stories that are now being retold. He has also appeared in the acclaimed Broadway show "Patti LuPone on Broadway," and has toured with Barry Manilow, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Patti Austin, Joe Cocker and the late Peter Allen. You gotta eat! During Spring Break, March 24–29, the Cafeteria will be open 11 a.m.–2 p.m. During that period the Grille, Expressions and Chili will be available. Expressions will offer salads and sandwiches ready to go. Grille will offer burgers, fries and more.
During the break some special items will be offered for you to try to see if they should be added to the menu atthe Cafeteria. Please take some time this week to help evaluate some of the new offerings at the Cafeteria.
During this same period, the DX Café and DX to Go will also be open. Cisco instructor Martiny honored He was recognized at the National Cisco Academy Conference in Cleveland at the 4R Award Recognition, developed by the Cisco Networking Academy Program to recognize students, instructors and schools that demonstrate excellence in the categories of Rigor, Relevance, Relationships and Results. Now in its 10th year, the Cisco Networking Academy is a global training program that provides students with information technology (IT) and technical networking skills. One of only three instructors recognized from throughout the United States, Martiny was recognized in the category of Relationships. Columbus State also partners with Martiny, a science teacher at Briggs High School, by working with the high school to arrange testing in the ACT/SkillsMax Center and allowing them to stage the students for testing in our Cisco lab. Martiny and his students assist with equipment and setup for the annual SkillsUSA State Internetworking Contest, which CPE and the K-12 Initiatives Department coordinate. Grade entry assistance available through March 22 During spring break (March 24–28), the IT Support Office hours will be Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. only. There are no weekend hours during the break. The office is located in the ERC (Columbus Hall, lower level). Contact IT Support at ext.5050 or stop in. If you are entering grades for your class and finding the system is running slowly or the grades are not completely entered after hitting submit, try the following: Instead of entering the entire class at one time, try entering them in increments of no more than 10. By doing this, you are less likely to get timed out. Faculty present at Women in Science Day  Noushin Fallah, Dr. Nardos Lijam and Dr. Charlie Gallucci represented Columbus State at the annual Women in Science Day held March 14 at Ohio State University. The faculty members gave a presentation on chemical and bimolecular engineering to the more than 300 girls in attendance, grades 6–9, with a demonstrated ability and interest in math and science.  Jackie Stewart Stewart to present at conference during breakJacqueline Stewart, Associate Registrar, will present “Getting Started at a Community College” at the 2008 Developing Visionary Leaders for a Changing World Annual Meeting on March 25 in Orlando, Fla. The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) conference attracts professionals from across the country to network and to share innovative ideas. The session will cover how the Student Assistance Center facilitates the enrollment process for students.

Jim Martiny, an instructor in the Columbus State Cisco Academy in Continuing Professional Education (CPE) has been honored this year by the Cisco Networking Academies. 
The deadline for Autumn Quarter grade entry is Saturday, March 22, at 11 p.m. The IT Support Center will be available for assistance Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Saturday, March 22, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Callback hours are from 6 p.m.–11 p.m.
