Offices to close at 4:30 p.m. July 3, classes openAs a result of the Red, White, and Boom celebration on Tuesday, July 3, and the increased traffic and parking situation, Columbus State Community College will close all offices and support services at 4:30 p.m.

Academic classes will not be canceled.

Supervisors may also need to modify part-time employees' schedules, as needed.

Summer enrollment up 3 percent On the first day of Summer Quarter 2007, enrollment reached 13,818, or more than 3 percent up from Summer 2006 on the first day (13,408). Applications for students starting in the summer were also up by 4.1 percent.

A rush of applications to start Autumn Quarter 2007 resulted in a 17 percent increase over the same time last year, with more than 8,000 applications being filed.  Statistics for applications are compiled on a monthly basis, so June's numbers have not yet been totaled, but already the number filed for the month are up 10 percent over 2006.

According to Dean of Enrollment Services Martin Maliwesky, a combination of the increased number of high school graduates this year, along with the college's recently frozen tuition price, have resulted in the greater number of applications.

Columbus State cooks contributeSubmit your favorite recipe to the Staff Advisory Council Cookbook project and help a fellow staff member. SAC is putting together a cookbook to raise funds for the Employee Book Scholarship, and we need your recipes!

We are hoping to include a range of recipes that showcase the talents of bakers, grillers, and unknown chefs from our campus community.  We'd like to include some of your good old fashioned "family recipes" that we know exist and are often prized at departmental potlucks.  Your recipe could be an entrée, soup, salad, bread, side dish, or dessert.  If you would like to submit a recipe for consideration to be included in the cookbook, email your recipe and your contact information to saccookbook@cscc.edu. You can also include photos or short stories that go with the recipe that may be used.

The deadline for submission is October 31.

What is Wellness?Wellness is an integration of body, mind and spirit to produce a balanced lifestyle, according to Heather Borland, supervisor of recreational activities. It promotes a sense of becoming, changing, improving and growing. Wellness is achieved by practicing good health habits and eliminating harmful ones. Wellness programming at Columbus State attempts to offer opportunities to create a balance in the life of students, faculty and staff.   Typical wellness offerings include Pilates, self-defense, yoga, belly dancing, tae kwon do and other educational seminars.
