Forums scheduled to discuss Advisory Committee work, membershipThe Curriculum Committee of Instructional Council is currently reviewing Procedure 5-15 (C), which details the work and membership of advisory committees. Advisory committees are appointed and maintained for all career and technical degree programs. The Curriculum Committee would like to invite the campus community to an open forum to discuss the membership makeup of the advisory committees. 

The forums will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at  11:30 a.m. and  Wednesday, May 9,  at 4:00 p.m.  Both forums will be held in Nestor Hall, Seminar Room B.

Mosley speaks to future novelists
Author Walter Mosley kicked off Columbus State's annual writers conference last Friday, with a keynote speech encouraging audience members to write their novel this year by pledging to write at least 90 minutes every day. More than 200 people attended the speech, held in the Center for Workforce Development ballroom.

Baseball Cougars to play tournamentThe Cougar baseball team takes on Clark State Community College for the regional tournament championship this weekend.  It is a best-of-three series, nine innings.  The first pitch is Friday, May 4, at 1 p.m., with the second game immediately after the first game is over. If a third game is needed for us to put away the Clark State Eagles, it will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. Join the Cougars at McCoy Park for tournament action! BYOHD (bring your own hot dogs).

Health care and dental open enrollment meetings to be held for full time employees In order to better understand the state of health care and the options available at Columbus State, the Human Resources Department and the College Health Care Committee strongly encourage you to attend one of the important open enrollment meetings that will be offered on May 8 and 9. 

Columbus State health care coverage will remain with UnitedHealthcare. The health care plan options and the plan design will remain the same for this year. There will be a change in the premiums, which will be discussed at these meetings. Delta Dental will remain the dental provider for the college.

If you wish to change plans, add or drop coverage, or enroll in either the health care plan or the dental plan, you will need to fill out the appropriate insurance carrier form and the Section 125 form.

Please plan to attend one of the following meetings:
Tuesday, May 8:             9-11 a.m. and 1- 3 p.m.
Wednesday, May 9:       9-11 a.m. and 1- 3 p.m. 

All meetings will be in the WD Conference Center, 4th floor.

New postal rates set to take effectThe Office Services Department offers the following informational flyer from the United States Postal Service concerning new rates and regulations that will take effect May 14.

Kirwan Institute at OSU to offer seminar on African American MalesA day-long seminar will be offered May 11 at the Ohio State Mortiz College of Law entitled "African American Males: Beyond the School to Prison Pipeline and Moving Toward Opportunity."  

The seminar is free and open to the public and will be offered from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Saxbe Auditorium, Drinko Hall, at the College of Law.

Union Hall elevators affected by overflow May 2There was a toilet overflow in Union Hall discovered by Public Safety and reported to Physical Plant at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 2. The elevators were down for a couple of hours Wednesday while Kone (elevator maintenance) responded. One elevator remains closed for cleaning and repair until further notice.
