Two to attend assessment consortium in JuneLibby Daugherty, Ph.D., director of Assessment, and Barb Thompson, professor in Communication Skills, will attend the Innovation and Inquiry for Student Learning (IISL) Consortium in June in Milwaukee, Wis. The intensive three-day workshop is described as "a community and technical college consortium," and only 25 colleges across the nation, including Columbus State, were selected to participate.
The workshop will be facilitated by Alverno College, long recognized as a leader in assessment of student learning. Alverno College, in Milwaukee, is a four-year, private college for women. The consortium is exploring a range of best practices at member institutions as they discover ways to improve student learning, retention, and degree completion.
Daugherty and Thompson will present their observations and experiences from this past year regarding assessment practices at Columbus State--what worked and what did not, the support received and barriers faced, and what they learned. They will receive feedback from other consortium members and from Alverno faculty.
Consortium members will share identified strategies for fostering student learning and will collaborate to develop workshops for other two-year institutions. The workshops will be offered during the summers of 2007 and 2008 at Alverno College.
