Donations being accepted to help Hurricane Katrina victims

Are you interested in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina? Locally, funds are being collected by the American Red Cross to aid those affected by the hurricane. If you would like to help out there are two ways you can make a donation:

•  Stop by any Huntington National Bank branch.

•  Contact the American Red Cross from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. at 1-800-HELPNOW (435-7669) or visit their website at www.redcross.org.

If you would like to volunteer for future disaster relief efforts, the American Red Cross is offering a free "Introduction to Disaster Services" training session on Wednesday, September 7, from 6-9:30 p.m. at their main office, 995 E. Broad St. Registration is required. To participate, call 614-253-2740, extension 2400.

Hospitality grad, restaurant owner to deliver Summer Commencement address

The Summer Quarter 2005 Commencement address will be given by Thomas F. Coffman, a graduate of Columbus State's restaurant management program and today the proud owner of The Clarmont Restaurant, Columbus' oldest white-tablecloth restaurant.

The ceremony will take place Friday, September 9, at 10 a.m. in Veterans Memorial, 300 W. Broad St. Approximately 300 Columbus State students will earn their associate degrees.

Mr. Coffman graduated with an applied business degree in restaurant management and also attended the University of Missouri at St. Louis before beginning his career in restaurant management and, later, ownership.

Mr. Coffman bought The Clarmont in 1996 after owning The Round Bar and Club 185. He also has managed Mario's Internationale and the Galleria Tavern, Sanese Services, Park Management, and David's of San Francisco Restaurant.

Mr. Coffman serves on the boards and membership of numerous organizations including serving as chairman of the board of the Central Ohio Restaurant Association and on the executive board of the Ohio Restaurant Association. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Columbus, the Brewery District Merchants Association and the Small Business Council for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

Columbus State's graduation ceremonies are free and open to the public. Parking at Veterans Memorial is $4.


Decision-making seminar to be offered via Web today

Today, September 1, from 1-2 p.m., those interested in attending "The Balanced Scorecard for Higher Education" seminar are welcome to go to Davidson Hall 104 and learn about the concepts and applications for effective decision-making in higher education. At the seminar, offered via the Web, participants will learn the steps required to implement an effective measurement and monitoring system to achieve critical objectives and will discover the necessary resources. New college janitorial contractor named
