Barbara R. Nicholson, Ph.D. to present keynote at Black History Month program February 23
The King Arts Complex is an anchor for development in the Near Eastside area, and an oasis for cultural, educational and community activities . "May 2006 will commemorate our 19th anniversary at the King Arts Complex," said Nicholson. "The past years have shown us that we must continue to dream the boldest dreams; that we must continue to build bridges of harmony and opportunities for mutual success; and, that together all things are possible." Nicholson is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Columbus Post and the board of the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority. She has been President of the Urbancrest Community Investment Corporation and served as a member of the Tuskegee Airmen & Eddie Rickenbacker Foundation board, Corporate Sisters, the Ohio Bicentennial Commission Advisory Council of Ohio Women and the First Circle Advisory Board of the Association of American Cultures, of which she was a chief architect of the establishment of the organization, a founding member and first Chair. Nicholson is a 2003 YWCA Woman of Achievement honoree, received the 2005 Community Service Award from Kappa Alpha Psi and was the 2005 recipient of the Governor's Award for Arts Administration in Ohio. Nicholson earned a B.F.A. degree at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, a Master of Arts degree at Columbia Teachers' College in New York City and a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the Ohio State University. Nicholson has continued to work as a practicing artist throughout her career.
World Artz sponsors African Artists exhibit through February 28 The Gallery in the Educational Resources Center (ERC) is hosting African artists during February in celebration of Black History Month. The exhibit is free and open to the public. African Artists from various backgrounds are featured, including: Peter Saka (Malawi, Africa), Lima (Zambia, Africa), Chrisfold Chayera (Malawi, Africa), and Bikis (South Africa). The exhibit is sponsored by the World Artz organization, and will be open Mon.-Thurs., 7:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday, 7:30 a.m. -6 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
