College is just part of the equation this year for Ruby Edwards-Thomas.
In addition to her pre-nursing major at Columbus State, she's also working full time and raising a son. If that's not enough for the 21-year-old single mom, she's also been crowned Miss Black Ohio USA 2013! The title carries a small scholarship which will help fund her education.
The pageant was held in August in Cincinnati. Ruby will now represent the Buckeye State in the Miss Black USA pageant in Washington, D.C. next year.
Ruby says even though juggling her many roles can be challenging, she's determined to succeed in higher education because she's the first person in her family to attend college. She plans to eventually become a mental health nurse and work with children.
