Welcome to Winter!
This is your first Winter Quarter issue of Splat, your weekly source for short news items about events, opportunities and deadlines at Columbus State. You might even win concert tickets in Splat!

You will receive the newsletter by email on Wednesdays, and if you want to read any of the articles, simply click on the Splat link to the Web. If you miss any issues during the quarter, you can go to the current issue and click on the “back issues” tab to view older stories. If you want to unsubscribe to this newsletter, simply click on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email, and put the word “unsubscribe” in your subject head.  At this time, you can only unsubscribe from receiving Splat on your Columbus State student email account, not from any forwarded accounts such as Hotmail or AOL.

Spirit Days start next week

The rivalry dates back to 2006, when the “Cougar News” decided to build up some heat for the basketball program. Sinclair was chosen as the victim.

Residency sessions offered Winter Quarter
Columbus State offers Ohio Residency Group Sessions each quarter to help students in
re-determination of their current residency status with the college. A student’s residency status is initially determined by information he or she provided on his or her application for admission to Columbus State. By attending one of these sessions, students can change their status with the proper paperwork. Here is the schedule of sessions.

Winter Weather closings by cell phone? Yes!

A view of campus last March 7 when Columbus got 20 inches of snow in one day!

Columbus State notifies the local media when emergency closings due to severe weather occur.  Local television channels 4, 6, and 10 each have sign-ups for you to be emailed or called on your cell phone, should Columbus State close campus due to a weather emergency.  WSYX (Channel 6) and WBNS (Channel 10) will email these alerts to you, and WCMH (Channel 4) will send the alert to your cell phone. You simply go online, select “text alerts” or “email alerts,” enter your information at the prompts, and you are all signed up. It’s a lot easier than sitting there watching the weather-closing crawl at the bottom of the screen for an hour!

Your tax information will be online soon
1098-T tax reporting information for 2008 will be available online by January 31 for students whose qualified tuition and related expenses were paid in 2008. You should have received an update in your Columbus State student email the first week of January to sign up for this online service.

Columbus State furnishes this statement to you in compliance with IRS regulations. You, or the person who can claim you as a dependent, may be able to claim an
education credit on Form 1040 or 1040A for the qualified tuition and related
expenses that were actually paid in 2008.

Getting your 1098-T form online has advantages, including:
    Timely access to information.
    No mail delays.
No special hardware or software required.
Current and prior year tax information is accessible.
Easy, secure access and you set your own password.

If you have questions about the 1098-T you may email acctsrecv@cscc.edu
