Crime Alert

Date of Incident: April 10, 2014

Time: 10:48 a.m.

Description: Vehicle Theft

Location: CSCC Columbus Campus

Details: Red 1990 Plymouth Sundance Ohio license plate FUL2237 stolen from a Columbus Campus parking lot at approximately 10:48 a.m.

Suspect: Unknown

Open or Closed Case: UPDATE - Vehicle has been recovered and returned to owner.

Crime Tip: Remove keys from your ignition, lock all doors and take the keys with you.  Store your valuables in the trunk of the car, out of sight.

Crime Alert

Date of Incident: October 3, 2013

Time: Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Description: Vehicle Theft

Location: CSCC Columbus Campus, parking lot 22-S

Details: A 2004 Ford Explorer, black in color, bearing Ohio license plates DYL2160, was stolen from parking lot 22-S.

Suspect: Unknown

Open or Closed Case: UPDATE - Vehicle has been recovered and returned to owner.

Date of Incident: September 9, 2013

Time: Between the hours of 9:25 a.m. and 2:39 p.m.

Description: Vehicle Theft

Location: CSCC Columbus Campus, parking lot 12-S

Details: A 2001 Acura MDX, silver in color, bearing Ohio license plates ECL6968, was stolen from parking lot 12-S.

Suspect: Unknown

Open or Closed Case: UPDATE - Vehicle has been recovered and returned to owner.

Crime Tip: When possible, park in areas with high pedestrian traffic and lock all doors.

Reported Rape

Date of Incident: July 8, 2013

Time: Approximately 8:45 a.m.

Description: Rape

Location:  150 Jefferson Ave., near CSCC Parking Lot 32-S

Details: Date of occurrence Monday, July 8, 2013.  Reported to CSCC Police on Monday July 8, 2013 at 11:05 a.m.

Columbus Division of Police reported a rape and attempted abduction at 150 Jefferson Ave.  The victim reports being grabbed and taken into the suspect's van where she was raped.

Suspect(s): Male black, 35-40 years old, 6 feet tall with a beard, wearing a blue striped shirt.  He is driving a tan minivan with two bench seats in the back.  Unknown make or model and no license plate information available.

Open or Closed Case:  Open

Crime Tip: Be alert and aware of your surroundings. Travel in pairs whenever possible.

Date of Incident: June 12, 2013

Time:
Approximately 1:00 p.m.

Description:
Report of a man with a gun tucked in pants

Location:
Ballet Met dance facility on Mt. Vernon Ave. - near Columbus Campus

Details:
Columbus Police contacted the Columbus State Police Department regarding a report of a man with a gun tucked in pants at the Ballet Met dance facility near the Columbus Campus.  No threats were made.

Suspect(s):
Young black male, with a round face, about 6 feet tall, wearing jeans and a gray wool coat with hood pulled over his head.  Witness said he also had a black handgun in his waistband.  No threats were made.  If seen - call 911.

Open or Closed Case:
Open.  Active patrol of the area will continue by Columbus Police and Columbus State Police.

Crime Alert

Date of Incident: Between April 13 and 14, 2013

Time:
Between 4:00 p.m. on April 13 and 1:00 a.m. on April 14

Description:
Auto Theft

Location:
Student Lot 12-S

Details:
Reporting person states he parked his car on the 12-S parking lot at 4:00 p.m. on April 13.  When he returned at 1:00 a.m. on April 14, the car was gone.  The car is described as a white 1995 Buick Century with Ohio license number ER62HG.

Suspect(s):
There are no suspects at this time

Open or Closed Case:
The case remains open.

Crime Prevention Notice

Update: March 7: The Iowa State Patrol has arrested Michael Tarpeh. He's facing charges of violent crimes in several states. Last week, the U.S. Marshals Service issued an alert in central Ohio for Tarpeh. At the request of the Marshals Service, Columbus State and Ohio State both issued alerts asking staff and students to be on the lookout. While investigators believe Tarpeh may have been in the area at the time, he did not commit any crimes on either campus.

Michael TarpehLocation: Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area

Details: The Columbus State Community College Department of Public Safety and The Ohio State University Police Division have been made aware of a dangerous wanted person who may be in the Columbus area.

An individual identified as Michael Moses Tarpeh is currently wanted by the Morgantown, W.Va., Police Department for aggravated assault and attempted sexual assault. He is also wanted by the Massachusetts State Police for an armed carjacking, robbery, and assault and battery of a motorist in Lee, Mass. Arrest warrants are pending with the University of Connecticut Police Department.

Suspect: Michael Moses Tarpeh also known as Michael Moses Boadi and refers to himself as 'Bigggggg Mike."

Tarpeh is a 23-year-old African American, and described as 'heavy set," 6 feet, 280 pounds. Tarpeh is NOT an OSU or CSCC student.
