Alternate Media
Alternate media converts printed materials such as textbooks and handouts into different formats. This enables you to read the material using the computer. Alternate media can include electronic text, large print, audio materials and braille.
You will need make an Alternate Media request every semester. Submitting requests as soon as you have a schedule is crucial. PLEASE NOTE: Textbook conversions can take up to 6 weeks to produce. Advance notice is very important.
New students should attend a training with an Alternate Media staff member to understand how to use the materials and receive training on the format that is best for you. Please contact 614-287-5910 or stop by the Disability Services front desk to schedule an appointment.
STEP 1: To request your alternate media
Fill out and Submit form Alternate Media Student Agreement
STEP 2: How to Submit Proof-of-Purchase
- Log in to Blackboard
- Click on My Organizations
- Click on Alternate Media Textbook Pick-up
- Click on My Alternate Media (left column)
- Click on Proof of Purchase link
- Follow instructions under Assignment Info.
- Wait approx. 2 business days for approval
STEP 3: How to Download Books
- Log in to Blackboard
- Click on My Organizations
- Click on Alternate Media Textbook Pick-up
- Click on My Alternate Media (left column)
- Click on folder with your name
- Click on textbook title to download
- Save to your computer (download)
STEP 4: To read textbooks aloud
You can pick up a free program called Read and Write Gold at the CSCC IT Help Desk located in the first floor of the library. A 4GB flash drive is required to obtain the program.
Tutorials for Read and Write Gold are located within the help.
