Q. Is there a fee to take the placement test?
A. There is no charge for a student's first placement test. All retests cost $20. Students are not allowed to test more than 2 times in 2 years.
Q. When will I get the results of my test?
A. As soon as you are finished with the test, you will have a copy of the results.
ESL students - your results will be available in 3 to 5 days. After testing you will be provided with further information.
Q. Can I take the test more than once?
A. Students wishing to retest must get permission to retest from an Advisor and pay a $20 retest fee.
Q. Who do I notify if I have a disability that requires special arrangements to take the placement test?
A. Please contact Disability Services at 614-287-2570 if you would like to request accommodations when taking the placement test.
Q. Can I fail the test?
A. No. The scores determine if you place into college-level credit courses or non-credit courses.
Q. Can I use a calculator for the Math section of the COMPASS Placement Test?
A. Yes. You can use the online calculator on the ACT COMPASS math test or you may

Q. Do I need computer skills?
A. You need only basic computer skills (typing and use of a mouse) to complete this test.
Q. Where should I park?
A. Downtown Columbus campus visitor parking is available at various lots. To obtain a parking pass for taking your COMPASS Test, see Testing Center staff. See site map for specific lot locations.
Q. Is an appointment necessary?
A. No. Testing is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q. What is acceptable identification to take the test?
A. Valid driver's license, passport, or school photo ID.
Q. Can I take the COMPASS Placement Test at any Columbus State locations?
A. Yes. COMPASS Placement Testing is available at all of our Testing Center locations.
Q. Can I take the COMPASS Placement Test if I live outside of central Ohio?
A. Yes. Remote COMPASS Placement Testing is offered to students planning to take classes at CSCC. Refer to the Remote COMPASS Placement Test web page.
Q. Can I take the COMPASS Placement Test if I plan to attend another college and not Columbus State Community College?
A. If you are not going to attend CSCC, you can take the COMPASS Placement test at the Community & Professional Testing Center. Click here for more information.
