James Brady - Coordinator
Youth and Adult Automotive Training Center
The epitome of dedication, Jim Brady, coordinator and instructor for
the Youth and Adult Automotive Training Center (YAATC), is committed
to the success of his students, the success of his department, and
the success of the college. His unmatched work ethic earned him
Staff Employee of the Month for March.
Brady has created and fostered relationships with social service
agencies, businesses, other educational institutions, and some of
the largest automobile dealerships and parts suppliers in central
Ohio, all with the idea of student success in mind.
“He is far more than a teacher. He is a mentor, a friend, and a
confidant,” says his Supervisor Dr. Andy Rezin, administrator for
Automotive and Applied Technology. “His commitment to the college
and dedication to student success is an example to everyone. His
drive for perfection requires him to make sure all of his students
succeed.”
“Jim is instrumental in helping disadvantaged students become
self-sufficient and many rely on his expertise long after they have
successfully completed the YAATC program,” says his colleague Robyn
Price, counselor and trainer for YAATC. “He spends hours on the
weekend searching for potential employment leads to share with
students.”
“Some of the YAATC students that come to Columbus State are homeless
individuals and after going through the program are self sufficient
because of Jim’s leadership and encouragement. He is a role model
for these students,” says President Moeller.
Price says, “Jim believes the achievements of an organization are
the result of the combined efforts of each individual.”
“His example of dedication and unselfish commitment sets a high
standard for all others to aspire to achieve,” says Rezin. “Some
would say he doesn’t know when to quit. I’d say there is no quit in
the man!”
For this honor, Brady says simply, “I’d like to thank the college
for the opportunity to do this work."

Mark Day - A/V Equipment Specialist
Information Technology
As an audio-visual technician at Columbus State, Mark Day, audio
visual equipment specialist in Communication Technologies and PC
Services, supports both main campus and Off-Campus Centers. Day
earned February Staff Employee of the Month for always being
available to help faculty, staff, and administration.
Day was nominated by Tonette Baldin, chair of Construction Sciences,
for going the extra mile and recognizing that our students are our
most important customers.
When an adjunct instructor teaching an AUTOCAD course, where
computers and an LCD projector are vital to instruction, called
Baldin at 10 minutes before 5 to report that a LCD was not working,
Baldin immediately contacted the IT Help Desk. In turn, Day was
contacted, and though he was on his way home, stopped by the lab,
identified the problem, and quickly returned with the necessary
equipment to remedy the situation.
"Mark exceeded my expectations as he recognized the importance of
needing the equipment to function to meet the needs of the course,"
says Baldin. "Mark was extremely professional, friendly, and
pleasant. By completing the work in a timely manner, there was only
15 minutes of lost instructional time."
According to his supervisor Connie Feeney, "As faculty increase
their dependency on AV equipment to enhance the learning
environment, Mark Day has stepped up to the plate to provide the
best possible level of support whenever needed. He does an excellent
job working to keep the audio-visual equipment functioning."
"This award is very surprising to me," says Day. "If we weren't here
for the students, we wouldn't have a job."

Rod Harris - Maintenance
Physical Plant
Making Columbus State an enjoyable, pleasant and beautiful place
to work is what earned Rod Harris Staff Employee of the Month for
January.
Dedicated to his job and his assigned buildings of Rhodes and
Madison Halls, Harris quietly and enthusiastically goes the extra
mile for employees, students and the campus.
When Co-Nominator Larry Hunter, specialist in student Records and
Registration, was charged with preparing for Autumn Quarter
registration, Harris asked what he could do to help and immediately
followed through, making a huge difference to the students.
According to Hunter, "His enthusiasm, competence and friendly
demeanor make our working environment pleasant and a joy to work in
this building."
While he might have a quiet demeanor, coming up with viable
solutions, training new co-workers, and taking pride in his work are
characteristics that make him stand out. Co-Nominator Karen Hill,
office associate in Enrollment Services, says, "Rod goes above and
beyond our expectations every time we make a request. His knowledge
of things is amazing - he usually ends up coming up with better
ideas and suggestions than our department."
"Rod is an important asset to the maintenance section of Physical
Plant and his approach to his job is an example for all Physical
Plant staff to model," says his Supervisor Jim Spencer, assistant
director of Physical Plant. |
