Start your appraisal career by becoming a State Registered Real Estate Appraisal Assistant, qualified to work with a licensed appraiser. With more education, you can obtain a state license to appraise properties professionally. Combining Appraisal classes with your transfer credit may help you complete a bachelor degree to become a Certified General Appraiser.

Appraisers are required to be licensed by the Division of Real Estate in order to perform mortgage loan appraisals in Ohio. License applicants must have a national criminal background check completed as part of the application process.

State Registered Real Estate Appraiser Assistant

A minimum of seventy-eight (78) pre-registration education hours are required prior to issuance of this registration. This must consist of at least sixty (60) classroom hours of courses in subjects related to real estate appraisal plus three (3) classroom hours devoted exclusively to federal, state and municipal fair housing law and fifteen (15) classroom hours of appraisal standards (USPAP) and provisions of Ohio Revised Code. (No experience necessary). The suggested plan of study for your first several quarters will include 80 classroom hours and are as follows:

Certified General 300 hours Bachelor degree or higher. In lieu of the required degree, Thirty (30) semester credit hours covering the following subject matter courses: English Composition; Micro Economics; Macro Economics; Finance; Algebra, Geometry or higher mathematics; Statistics; Introduction to Computers-word processing/spreadsheets; Business or Real Estate Law; and two (2) elective courses in accounting, geography; ag-economics business management or real estate. 3,000

1 Hours required include completion of the 15-hour National USPAP Course (or its equivalent).
2 Hours required include specific core curriculum courses and hours – please see the Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria for details.
3 College-level courses and degrees must be obtained from an accredited college or university.

The program meets the career objective of persons interested in appraisal. For students who plan to continue their education beyond the state-registered appraisal assistant level, these classes will count toward licensure & further certification.
