AIFS
- American Institute for Foreign Study
The American Institute for Foreign
Study (AIFS) offers study abroad programs in thirteen countries as well as
multi-country and “in English” program options.
Students may select from the summer, quarter/semester, and academic year
program offerings. Destinations
include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Ireland,
Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, South Africa, and Spain. The application deadlines and program fees
vary. The fees include the international flight, tuition, housing, meals, and
cultural activity costs. The academic year programs may range from $10,945 (St.
Petersburg price) to $22,745 (London price). The semester programs may range from $5,595 (St. Petersburg price) to
$11,750 (London price). The summer
programs may range from four-weeks at $3,779, six-weeks at $5,139, or
eight-weeks at $6,399 (London prices). AIFS scholarships are available. AIFS offers $1,000 semester program scholarships, $750 summer
program scholarships, and one full scholarship to a minority applicant each
semester.

CASA
– Center for Arabic Study Abroad
CASA,
the Center for Arabic Study Abroad, offers intensive Arabic language
training to students, who have a foundation of Arabic language skills and an
interest in Middle Eastern studies. The
language of instruction is Arabic. CASA
is administered by Emory University and operates at the American University in
Cairo in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education and a governing
council of 22 U.S. colleges and universities, which includes The Ohio State
University. CASA offers a Summer
program, with a program fee of $1,000, and a Full Year program, with a program
fee of $2,000. Students, who are selected
for either program, receive fellowships covering round trip transportation,
tuition, and a monthly stipend in Egyptian pounds. The application deadline is December 31.

The Council on International Experiential
Education (CIEE)

every continent. Destinations
include Africa: Ghana, South Africa, and Tunisia. Asia: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and
Vietnam. Europe: Belgium, Czech
Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Malta, The
Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Poland, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, and Wales.
Latin America: Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Middle East: Jordan, Tunisia, and
Turkey. Oceania: Australia and New Zealand. Focus areas of the summer programs feature Language and Area Studies;
Art, Art Restoration, Art History, and Archaeology; Development and the
Environment; Public Health; and Tropical Biology and Ecology. CIEE offers a range of services to assist participants with making travel
arrangements. Full-time students
and graduating seniors, who are U.S. citizens, aged 18 and upwards, are
eligible. The deadlines and fees

The Higher Education
Consortium for Urban Affairs (HECUA) offers internship and field study
opportunities in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Students examine how societies
plan, manage, and respond to urban development and its consequences.
The Scandinavian Urban Studies Term is based Norway, Sweden, and
Estonia. The South American Urban Studies Term is based in Guatemala and Cuba.
The Community Internships in Latin America Term is based in Ecuador.
The Environment, Economy and Community in Latin America Term is based in
Ecuador. The Development and
Community Term is based in Bangladesh. The programs combine classroom work with field studies, travel, and
homestays in other parts of the region. Some
of the programs offer internships. Completion
of the first year of college is required to participate.
The programs in Latin America require the completion of two years of
college level Spanish. The program prices range from $3,400 for a January term
program to $9,950 for a semester program.

The School for Field
Studies (SFS)
offers programs that are dedicated to training and engaging undergraduates in
international environmental problem solving. SFS offers semester and summer programs to students of all
majors. Accredited by Boston University, the semester programs carry sixteen
credit hours in biology or environmental science. The academics incorporate a combination of lectures, fieldwork, and
directed research. Students can
select from six programs: the Center for Rainforest Studies in Far North Queensland, Australia; the Center for Coastal and Marine Mammal Studies in Baja
California, Mexico; the Center for Marine Resource Studies on South Caicos
Island in the British West Indies; the Center for Coastal Rainforest and
Fisheries Studies on Vancouver Island's Pacific coast; the Center for
Sustainable Development Studies, located on a small farm in Costa Rica's Central Valley; and the Center for Wildlife Management Studies, located on a
game ranch and on a Maasai Group Ranch on the Kenyan savanna.
Applicants for the semester programs must be at least 18 years of age and
have completed at least one college level ecology or biology course and one
semester, or equivalent, of college. The
application fee is $35. SFS make scholarships and interest free loans available

with the University of Pittsburgh, the Institute for Shipboard Education's Semester at Sea program provides students with the opportunity to travel by ship
with classmates and faculty and staff, complete a shipboard curriculum that
integrates classroom with international fieldwork, and explore a number of
countries and cultures. The Summer
2001 voyage will begin at Piraeus, Greece, and travel to Spain, Norway, Russia,
Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Egypt, and Israel. The Fall 2001 voyage will begin in Vancouver, BC, and travel to Japan,
Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, and end in
Miami, FL. The regular fall and spring semester rates begin at $13,750, and
the regular summer semester rates begin at $7,275. Reduced rates are available through
