FIRE 117: 240 Hour Professional Firefighter I & II

The course consists of all the performance and knowledge objectives in the current NFPA Standard 1001 for Firefighter I and II including but not limited to: fire department organization, safety, fire alarm, fire behavior, extinguishers, ropes, ladders, hose streams, fire control, salvage and rescue.  This course is required for full-time firefighters.  The content of this course will enable students to obtain State of Ohio certification for Firefighter I & II levels (240 hour firefighter course) upon successful completion of the State of Ohio FF I & II exam.

By State of Ohio regulation, you MUST attend at least 90% of the course hours. NO EXCEPTIONS!

 FIRE 117 is offered each summer quarter beginning mid June lasting seven weeks.  Typical class hours are 7:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday.  Two-eight hour Saturday sessions are also added to this schedule.                   

FIRE 117 is offered each autumn quarter; this schedule is Monday thru Thursday, 4:00pm to 9:00pm, and 5-eight hour Saturdays. 

FIRE 117 is offered each spring quarter; this schedule is Monday thru Thursday, 4:00pm to 9:00pm, and 5-eight hour Saturdays.

***This class fills up VERY quickly; you should be ready to register at 8am on the first day of registration for whichever quarter you are hoping to take this class!! If you are trying to enter the Fire 117 (240 hour) class, we recommend that you come to campus or try to register using the CATS telephone registration system. This will be the first Autumn quarter that a new computer system will be used for registration. Web registration will still be available, but may be very limited during regular business hours. In case of any problems, please plan on going to the campus registration office in Madison Hall to register in person.

This class is now “tech restricted” to the EMS/Fire Science major for registration purposes ONLY. To change your major if needed, contact Records & Registration (614) 287-5353 and ask to have your major changed to EMS/Fire Science (#07903).

This course is held in conjunction with Northwest Career Center and is a 12 credit hour class.  Approximate costs are as follows:

Application fee (one time)           $10.00

Tuition (12 credit hours)            $876.00

Lab Fees **                                $120.00

Approximate book costs              $65.00
** Lab fee includes use of SCBA, bunker coat and pants, helmet, NWCC engine, handtools, saw blades, etc..  You must supply your own Nomex hood, fire boots, and fire gloves, all of which must meet current NFPA standards.
