Taxonomy And Animal Behavior Programs

WHAT’S IN A NAME?  An Exercise in Taxonomy   Students use a simple  taxonomic key to sort arthropods according to  visible characteristics.  Next,  students are asked to invent their own taxonomic key for a special surprise population of individuals.

WHY DO THEY DO THAT?  Is an experiment in animal behavior using  sowbugs.  Students observe, log,  and graph animal behavior.

POWERBUGS:  Can you pull as much weight as a lowly beetle?  Try this experiment and find out!

PHUNKY PHEROMONES: Pheromones are the chemicals which insects use to communicate. Observe how termites react to the scent of a pheromone.
