Before You Come To Campus: 10 Simple Rules For A Safe and Fun Visit
In order to ensure the safety of all Fantastic Friday participants, some simple rules must be followed at all times. The sponsoring teacher will be asked to initial a waiver stating that these rules have been read and clearly understood.
1) Columbus State Community College faculty are NOT trained in the discipline of adolescents. The sponsoring teacher is ultimately responsible for the conduct of students brought to campus.
2) Each group must be accompanied by an appropriate number of chaperones. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. IF CHAPERONES CANNOT BE FOUND, PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR GROUP TO CAMPUS. This is very important for the safety of your students. We recommend 1 chaperone per four students. Chaperones can be parents, additional teachers, or paraprofessional staff. Chaperones must be at least 21 years old. Chaperones are not to bring small children to campus.
3) ABSOLUTELY no horseplay, pushing, shoving or running will be tolerated. Offending students must be escorted from the laboratories IMMEDIATELY. Students must be reminded that these are REAL laboratories with very real potential hazards.
4) Because the sponsoring teacher is ultimately responsible for the students, the teacher must not leave the students.
5) Students must be escorted by an adult chaperone (parent or teacher) at all times, including restroom visits. Students are to wear large name tags while on campus, identifying them and their school.
6) Students are to be ABSOLUTELY SILENT while traveling inside of buildings. College classes will always be in session.
7) There will be a short introduction before each lab session is begun. The laboratory procedure will be explained to the students. IT IS ESSENTIAL that students listen carefully to this introduction. It will last no longer than 10 minutes.
8) Students, teachers, and parent/chaperones are expected to clean up the labs before departing.
9) Students, teachers and parent/chaperones must wear safety goggles when directed to do so.
10) No food or drinks are allowed into the laboratories. Sack lunches will be stored for visitors.
