Columbus State’s
Construction Sciences Department offers a variety of health
and safety training courses to assist in the compliance of
OSHA regulations. The
Environmental Technology, Construction Management and
Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning Technology
programs has both credit and non-credit courses in this
area.
Hazardous Materials Health
& Safety
The Health & Safety
Training for
Hazardous Waste Operations
(ENVR 252)
certificate course (OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER) is taught three
times a
year; as a one-week long session during
Summer Quarter, over the Internet (with two scheduled
Saturdays for the hands-on portion) during Spring Quarter,
and on Friday afternoons throughout Winter
Quarter. The
Hazardous Materials Refresher Training course (HAZWOPER
8-Hr. Refresher, ENVR 256) is
available during Summer Quarters and over the Internet upon
request.
These classes are also available as non-credit
training courses.
The OSHA
24-Hour Health & Safety Training for Emergency Response
to Chemical Spills
(Technician Level) is available to individuals or companies that need to
comply with this portion of OSHA’s Hazardous Waste
Operations and Emergency Response regulation.
A minimum number of registered attendees are required
for this course to be scheduled.
Compliance
with a variety of OSHA’s hazardous chemical regulations
are covered in the Hazardous Materials Management course
(ENVR 111). This
includes information on the Hazard Communication and
Laboratory Standards, as well as compliance with a variety
of relevant DOT and EPA regulations.
Additional health and safety
courses that are available through the Environmental
Technology program include Hazard Communication, Bloodborne
Pathogen, Respiratory Protection and Confined Space Entry.

General
Industry Health & Safety
The OSHA
30-Hr General Industry Safety and Health (OSHA Outreach
Training course) is offered as a 4-credit course (ENVR170)
during Autumn Quarters. We also offer the OSHA 10- and 30-Hr
General Industry Safety and Health as non-credit courses.

Prevention course (CMGT 135) provides an overview of the
identification of work hazards and the compliance of OSHA
regulations for construction sites.
