The Online Writing
Center
Columbus State's Online Writing Center (an extension of the Writing Center in
Franklin Hall) is a free service provided to help student through all stages of
the writing process.
While not an editing or proofreading service, the OWRC aims to help students
identify problem areas in their writing and to offer suggestions and strategies
for improvement.
The OWRC is a multi-service center that offers the following:
- Writing Consultations
- Quick Questions
- Tutorials
- Writing Tips
- External links
To
access our services, log onto Blackboard using your usual username and password.
Then look for your link(s) to the OWRC under "My Communities."
The Center currently serves courses in the departments of Business
Management, Communication Skills, Humanities, and Social and Behavior Sciences,
for both distance learning (DL) and traditional classroom courses. If you find
multiple links on your Blackboard page (as in the sample illustration), select
the one for the course that you're writing the paper for.
The "Quick Questions," "Tutorials," "External Links" and "Writing Tips"
services are available 24/7. The OWRC accepts writing submissions 24/7, and we
will return submissions within 48 hours.
We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the site, and take advantages
of all the wonderful resources the OWRC has to offer.
Exceptions
The OWRC will not accept submissions during the first week of the quarter, the
final weekend of classes, or during finals week.
The OWRC is closed during all holidays and in-service days, as listed in the
CSCC academic calendar.
If you have any questions about this site, please contact
Dr. Douglas Gray, Department Web Site Administrator.
