Theatre Columbus State presents The
Triangle Factory Fire Project
In keeping with this season's theme of
"Defining Moments: Crisis in America,"
director Frank Barnhart presents Christopher Piehler's The
Triangle Factory Fire Project. This
ambitious production concerns an historic 1911
catastrophe that killed 186 immigrant factory
workers in Manhattan.
Hundreds of laborers were locked inside the
Triangle Waist Company near Washington Square
when a blaze started, on March 25, 1911. Less
than half an hour later, 146 of them had died.
The cast of the drama portray victims of the fire,
recounting their harrowing death experiences,
and (sometimes in multiple roles) figures from
the manslaughter trial of the factory owners,
presided over by Judge C.T. Crain.
Theatre Columbus State's Nancy Kephart says, "This defining moment helped shape
social, economic, and political policies for
decades, culminating in child labor laws and
more humane treatment of the workforce."
