Win $500 and Improve Your Writing Skills |
Registration deadline: November 7
Columbus State Community College wants to give you a boost in reaching your goals in higher education. So the writing faculty in the Communication Skills Department are sponsoring an essay-writing contest for current GED students and 2007-2008 GED graduates in the greater Columbus area.
What's involved? Nothing too complicated. Write a personal essay.
What's the topic? Nothing too complicated: Tell a story about a person, an event, or a situation that has made a difference in your life.
What's the deal? Again, nothing too complicated:
What's the prize? $500 -- that's five hundred dollars -- for the winners! Yes, more than one! There are four separate awards, which you can use toward your goals in higher education.
What's the deadline? You must turn in a registration form to a GED instructor by November 7. Your final submission must be postmarked by Friday, December 5. An awards ceremony for winner will take place on Friday, February 13, 2009.
What's the point? It's simple: to reflect on and envision the possibilities that education has opened for you, or can open for you, and to accept some assistance in writing about that experience.
What's the catch? There isn't one . . . unless you feel caught by the idea of getting $$$ for expression your ideas on the topic.
What's the next step? Get moving. Complete the registration form, and mail or fax it to us by November 7. Plan to attend the workshop on November 15. And start thinking about how your winnings will support the educational goals -- the possibilities you envision -- for your future.
