Name the new cafeteria (and get a chance to win a gift card!)

Columbus State is renovating the cafeteria in Union Hall on the Columbus Campus, and we want your help determining a new name.

Renovation plans include multi-use seating areas, a Starbucks station, and an easy-to-navigate food court. The goal? To create a space that’s more than just a cafeteria. It will be a place where you can eat, relax, study and meet with others for conversation and collaboration. The College is looking for a name that captures the energy of this new dining and gathering space.

That’s where you come in. Submit your ideas to studentnews@cscc.edu by October 31 to be considered. You’ll also get a chance to win a $50 gift card to the bookstore if your idea is chosen.

500 Years Later: How Martin Luther's Thoughts Shaped Modern European Society

Wednesday, November 1 at 4:00 p.m.
Franklin Hall 110

portrait of Luther

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther published 95 Theses for debate, challenging the authority and structure of the Roman Catholic Church. Within five years, the monolithic Medieval Church had crumbled. But Luther's ideas had a far greater impact beyond changing the religious life of Europe.

In this lecture, Dr. David Hockenbery, former Dean of Arts and Sciences at Columbus State, discusses how Luther's thoughts laid the foundations for modern society from public education to science, from equality for men and women to democracy, and from Gregorian chant to Johann Sebastian Bach.
