Immigration Information session to be held Feb. 28

All interested students are invited to attend next week’s information session on immigration and current events. The goals of the session are to share what we know about policy, and to connect students with internal and external resources. A resource fair will host a number of community groups and Columbus State departments from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Nestor Hall East Lounge, and at 11:30 a.m., there will be a presentation for interested attendees in the Nestor Hall West Lounge.  The info session will also be live streamed here:



Women’s award nominations open until March 1


Students are invited to nominate women that they admire for two awards that will be given in conjunction with the 2017 Women’s History Month celebration coming up in March.

The first is the Legacy in Leadership Award. This award will be given to a qualified employee who has served a minimum of five years at Columbus State. Women who are nominated will receive an invitation to attend the awards celebration. The selection committee will select one recipient from those who are nominated. The nomination form can be found online here: The deadline to nominate is Wednesday, March 1, by midnight.

The second award is the Outstanding Woman Leader Award for both students and employees at Columbus State. The selection committee may select up to 10 recipients from those who are nominated for this particular award. The nomination form can be found online here: and is also due by March 1.


Center to produce women’s video

You can help the Global Diversity and Inclusion Center to produce a video in celebration of Women’s History Month in March. The staff of the Center will ask you to tell them about a woman at Columbus State who has made a positive impact on your life. The subject can be an employee or a student at the college. If you would like to participate in this video project, please contact Sarah Baker by Monday, February 27 for your interview time.


Attend the Women’s Brunch March 3!

Student Engagement and Leadership, and the Global Diversity and Inclusion Center will host a Women's Brunch in celebration of Women's History month, Friday, March 3, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Nestor Hall 106. Join fellow Columbus State students to discuss confidence-building, interviewing skills, professionalism and more, with special guest, Tracy Harrison, Columbus State’s “First Lady.” Additionally, the Dress for Success Columbus team members will provide onsite consultation and appointment registration. Interested in student clubs? Forum tomorrow

A forum will be held tomorrow, February 23, for all current Columbus State club members, as well as those who are interested in joining or starting a new club or organization. The event will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Nestor Hall 228.

The forum will allow current club members, and those interested, to talk about club operations and resources. If you are a club member, or are interested in becoming one, please attend to share your thoughts! You can RSVP at The Hub, here:


Job recruitment table tomorrow

Home Instead Senior Care will have a job recruitment table tomorrow, Thursday, February 23, in the Nestor Hall Lobby, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  They will be hiring for LPNs, RNs, and students currently enrolled in the Nursing program.


Work/study still available for spring and summer

Student jobs, both College Work Study and Federal Work Study, are still available and departments are hiring. If you anticipate being enrolled for the summer semester as well, this can be a great time to get hired into a position.

Open College Work Study positions include: Student Telecounselor, Supplemental Instruction Leader, Peer Tutor, and Library Assistant in Circulation.

Open Federal Work Study positions include: Automotive Tech Student Assistant, Student ESL Afterschool Tutor, Student Lab Assistant in the Skilled Trades, and multiple openings as Student Office Assistant.

Eligible students with Federal Work Study may also apply for community positions with the following organizations:  Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Hands On Central Ohio, Equitas Health, and SourcePoint of Delaware County.

Have your taxes done free

tax form

You can have your federal and state income tax returns prepared free of charge by IRS-certified accounting students, starting February 16 and continuing through April 8.

The tax preparation is done as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Taxes are prepared on Thursdays, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the Columbus Campus.

To have your tax returns prepared, schedule an appointmentwith Hands-on-Columbus, at 211 locally, or (614)221-2255, when calling from outside the 614 area code.
