Summer Semester 2013 registration begins Feb. 18

Registration for Summer Semester classes will begin on Monday, February 18. The Summer Semester begins on May 20 and runs 11 weeks through August 3. Summer Semester is a great opportunity to get a head start or catch up on your Plan of Study because it’s a month shorter than a regular semester. And you’ll even have two weeks for a summer vacation before you’re back in school for Fall Semester on August 21!

Web registration for Summer Semester will open at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 18, and telephone registration will open at 7:30 a.m. In-person registration at the Columbus Campus, Delaware Campus and the Regional Learning Centers in Dublin, Gahanna, Reynoldsburg, and Westerville will begin at 8:00 a.m.


Destination: Ohio State!

logoColumbus State will offer a series of events called “Destination Days,” and the first one with OSU is coming up fast on Thursday, February 14.

Destination Days is where representatives from area colleges bring their college to our campus, with a wide array of transfer information ranging from student services and activities, to academic programs and transfer opportunities.  

Tomorrow (Feb. 14) The Ohio State University will bring reps from more than 20 departments of the university to promote their transfer options for Columbus State students who are interested in that “pathway.” The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall student lounges.

The schedule for Destination Days continues through February and March on the Columbus and Delaware Campuses, and at select Regional Learning Centers.

Tuesday, February 19
- Transfer Day at the Dublin Center with OSU, Franklin University, Ohio University, Capital University, Ohio Dominican University, Otterbein University, and Ohio Wesleyan University.

Wednesday, February 20 - Transfer Day at the Westerville Regional Learning Center with OSU, Franklin, Ohio University, Capital, Ohio Dominican, Otterbein, and Ohio Wesleyan.

Tuesday, February 26 – Destination Day with Franklin University on the Columbus Campus

Thursday, February 28 – Destination Day with Ohio University on the Columbus Campus

Tuesday March 19 – Destination Day with Bowling Green University on the Columbus Campus

Thursday, March 21 - Transfer Day on the Columbus Campus with Ohio State, Franklin, Ohio University, Capital, Ohio Dominican, Otterbein, and Ohio Wesleyan

Monday – Thursday, March 25-28 - Delaware Campus Transfer Days with Franklin, Ohio Wesleyan, OSU, and Otterbein

Destination Days and Transfer Days are supported by Columbus State's U.S. Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions Grant.

Experience an Evening in Ancient Greece Feb. 19!

The Humanities Department will host a free special event next Tuesday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Nestor Auditorium called “An Evening in Ancient Greece,” which is a mix between a lecture, a play, a concert and a poetry reading—set in the context of Ancient Greece! Costumed performers with music and multimedia will transport you back to ancient times. Come and experience this free event! And if you would like to learn more about Greece, sign up for Classical Civilization: Greece (CLAS 1224). Columbus State also offers courses in Classical Mythology, the History of Rome and the History of Byzantium.

students in labExplore your options at the upcoming Health Major Fair! The Health Major Fair will be held Wednesday, March 6, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Nestor Hall Lounge. You can stop by any time during the day.

Who should come?

-  Students who are interested in entering one of our health-related programs.

-  Students who are considering a career in health care, but aren’t sure exactly what specific occupation they are interested in.

-  Students who may have applied for a health-related program, but now want to explore other options in the field.

What will you do there?

-  Get information about specific programs

-  Learn about AA/AS Pre-Majors that are health-related

-  Meet the faculty

-  Get registered to win a $25 gift card from the Columbus State Bookstore!

Student Ambassador program seeks new members

Develop your leadership skills while participating in public relations, recruitment and leadership programs at Columbus State! Student Ambassadors earn money to help pay for tuition and educational expenses. The Student Ambassador Leadership Program is looking for applicants for the 2013-2014 year. Development Foundation scholarship applications due March 1

Party dresses needed for donation!

dress shoppingThe Student Engagement and Leadership Office (SEaL) is collecting donations of gently used formal gowns, dresses, shoes and accessories for the Cinderella’s Closet Boutique run by the local Fairy Goodmothers organization.

Cinderella’s Closet is a special event held for central Ohio high school girls who may not have the means to purchase dresses for their proms and spring dances. On Tuesday, February 26 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., SEaL will collect the donations and host a fashion show in the Nestor Hall study lounge “runway!”

So bring your new or gently used formal gowns and accessories to Nestor Hall on Feb. 26 for a very good cause. The Fairy Goodmothers hope to collect at least 1,500 gowns this year for local young ladies!

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week begins Feb. 25

Watch this space next week for a complete schedule of events for “Operation Be-YOU-tiful” February 25-28, sponsored by SEaL, Counseling Services and the Psychology Department. There will be lots of special programming and informational resources dealing with body image and wellness, including movies, presentations, information tables and health screenings.

Columbus State’s master planning process began in August 2011 with extensive research, including over 100 stakeholder engagement sessions. Faculty, students, staff, administrators and the communities of both the Columbus and Delaware campuses have been engaged in the work.
