IT Majors Fair is Wednesday

The next “Majors Fair” will be held Wednesday, April 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall Student Lounge. Majors Fairs are designed for YOU if you are undecided about your major, or are considering a change in major. At the upcoming IT Majors Fair, you can talk with faculty from our IT programs, discuss plans of study and talk about career fields in all areas of computers and information technology. Next on the schedule will be the Engineering Majors Fair on Wednesday, April 10


Medical Assisting “Test Drive” offered April 15

lab sceneExplore the Medical Assisting Program. It's a fast-growing field with immediate openings. Columbus State’s Medical Assisting program at the Delaware Campus will offer a “test drive” on Monday, April 15, from 9:00 a.m. to noon (at the Delaware Campus). You’ll be able to find out more about the field, meet with faculty members, check out the course requirements, and explore career options. If you’d like to attend, RSVP to Michelle Heller.

Get tips for managing your money and staying out of debt

piggybankIt’s April, and that means it’s time to get smarter about your money. Columbus State will host Financial Wellness Month throughout the month of April, with a series of workshops and a focus group.

Money Matters: Financial Wellness Workshops

  • Monday, April 8 – Out With the Old, In With the New: How to overcome debt, think smart about credit, and invest wisely
  • Monday, April 22 – Looking into the Future: Long-term financial planning

All workshops will be led by Jack Popovich, assistant professor and program director for the Finance program. All workshops will be held in Nestor Hall, Room 229 from noon to 1:00 p.m.


Columbus State C.A.R.E.S. Focus Group

Share your experiences and needs as a Columbus State student. We will be discussing everything from transportation to housing to medical care. Your feedback will help us better serve the needs of our students. Pizza will be served during the session. Please RSVP by April 9. The first 25 students will be accepted.

BLUEprint workshops cover wide range of topics in April

During April, Columbus State Advising Services will offer a wide variety of BLUEprint Success Workshops to students. The workshops are free and can help you build skills and find resources to help you be successful in your personal, academic, and career pursuits. There are seven new workshops, with several options for times.

National Student Employment Week is next week!

Thank you to all student employees. Your hard work and dedication on campus, or with a community partner, has not gone unnoticed. National Student Employment Week is April 8-12, and all current Federal Work Study or College Work Study employees are invited to attend the Student Employee Appreciation Event, on Tuesday, April 9, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Union Hall 332!

Drop in for a few snacks, a chance to check in and talk about your experience, and to receive a token of our appreciation!



Upward Bound accepting applications

Applications are now being accepted for high school students who wish to participate in the Upward Bound Program at Columbus State. If you have a son or daughter who may qualify for this program, you should check it out!

Upward Bound is a program funded through the U.S. Department of Education, and designed to generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to complete high school and to enter and succeed in college.

To be selected as an Upward Bound participant, a student must be identified as a first-generation college student and/or a member of a low-income family in one following target schools: East, Linden McKinley, Mifflin, or West High Schools. The participant must show evidence of academic potential. Students can start in the Upward Bound program as early as the summer before their 9th grade school year.

Applications may be obtained from the Upward Bound office from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday in Franklin Hall 223. Prospective students or parents can also contact Meghan Volk, supervisor for Upward Bound for an application.
