Engineering Majors Fair is today!

The next “Majors Fair” will be held Wednesday, April 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall Student Lounge. Majors Fairs are designed for YOU if you are undecided about your major, or are considering a change in major. At the Engineering Majors Fair, you can talk with faculty from our engineering programs, discuss plans of study and talk about career fields in all areas of engineering.

In-Service Day is Friday, April 12

Remember, there are no day classes on Friday, April 12, when the employees of Columbus State will be attending In-Service Day. Check your syllabus, or with your instructors about evening classes after 5:00 p.m., which may be in session.


romeSpend an evening in Rome April 17

Join the Columbus State Humanities faculty for "An Evening in Rome" to celebrate the city’s 2,766th birthday, Wednesday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Nestor Hall Auditorium. Experience Roman life and thought in this hour-long presentation based on actual writings from the Romans themselves and narrated by “Roma” herself. You will see images and costumes and hear the words and poetry of the Romans come to life! The event is free and open to the public.



Take Back the Night and Day of Silence United


Throughout the week of April 15, Columbus State, Franklin University and Columbus College of Art & Design will partner to present the annual Take Back the Night and Day of Silence activities.

These events seek to empower students and community members of the Discovery District to become a safer and more unified community for all residents, visitors and friends. Both of these national movements work to end violence against women and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) individuals.

Monday, April 15 – March Monday! Joint march and candlelight vigil featuring speaker Tara McKenzie Allison, 5:00 p.m. march step-off at the CCAD Crane Center.

Tuesday, April 16 - Discovery District safety meet and greet and vendor fair, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Columbus State Courtyard (by the statue).

Wednesday, April 17 - Workshop Wednesday! V-Men workshop hosted by the MAN Initiative, 12:00 p.m. at the Columbus State Library Studio; Bystander Awareness Training hosted by BRAVO, 1:30 p.m. at the Library Studio; Sexual Assault / Title IX workshop, 2:30 p.m. at CCAD; LGBT Assault Workshop hosted by BRAVO, 4:00 p.m. at CCAD.

Thursday, April 18 - Premier screening of Columbus State It Gets Better video, 4:00 p.m. in the Library Studio; Town Hall meeting on college climates for LGBT students and employees, 4:15 p.m. in the Library Studio; LGBT Mini Film Festival at Columbus State, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Library Studio, including: Boys Don't Cry, Were the World Mine, Before Stonewall, and Transgeneration.

Friday, April 19 - Day of Silence Speak Out – discussion and reflection, 6:20 p.m. at CCAD; “Metamorphosis” Drag Show, 8:00 p.m. at CCAD.


Have some spring cleaning to do?

woman with cleaning suppliesDo your spring cleaning with a helping hand to those in need! Donate your gently used clothes in all sizes, and small household items to Goodwill Columbus. You can drop off your items at the Student Engagement and Leadership (SEaL) Office in Nestor Hall 116 and Columbus State will get them to Goodwill. Or you can bring your items to campus on Friday, April 12, (during In-Service Day – No day classes) when Goodwill Columbus will be here with a donation truck in front of Davidson Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Remember, any act of kindness is always of value!


Co-op scholarships available to Columbus State students

Ohio is the truly the “heart of it all’ in terms of cooperative education, having the distinction of being the oldest co-op state in the nation. The Ohio Cooperative Education Association (OCEA) offers $500 and $1000 scholarships to students who attend Ohio institutions and are working toward becoming a professional with the help of cooperative education or internships.

OCEA has scholarships for students at both two-year and four-year institutions. The application can be found on their website under “scholarships” and the Associate Degree application can be downloaded there.

The deadline for returning scholarship applications to OCEA is at the end of the day, Friday, April 26. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the upcoming OCEA Conference that will be held on May 14, 15, and 16, at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Apply today!
