Developmental Education Courses Currently Offered Via Web & Blended

Note: A blended class meets in a classroom for a minimal amount of time. The majority of your work is performed online. For example, a Dev 0114 Basic Math & Pre-Algebra course is 4-credit hours. Students in this course are required to attend class for 1 hour and 20 minutes each week and the remaining work is performed online (instructional videos, homework, quizzes, etc.). 

DEV 0114 Basic Math and Pre-Algebra (A, SP, SU)

4 credits
This course begins with a review of arithmetic and introduces introductory algebraic concepts. Students will work with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, integers, and use this knowledge to calculate and simplify algebraic expressions and solve linear equations. Related applications and problem solving including ratio, proportion, and percent are also covered. Not open to students with MATH 10XX or higher.

Prerequisites: By placement exam

DEV 0151 Basic Grammar (A, SP, SU)

1 credit
This course covers the identification of basic parts of speech, the identification and correction of verb errors (tense, form, and agreement), the identification and correction of sentence structure errors (fragments, run-ons, and comma splices), and the correct structure and punctuation of compound and complex sentences.

DEV 0152 Basic Punctuation (A, SP, SU)

1 credit
This course covers punctuation skills, including the correct use of commas, semicolons, quotation marks, apostrophes, end marks, and the conventions of capitalization.

Lab fee: $3.00

DEV 0155 Basic Composition (A, SP, SU)

4 credits
This course focuses on the processes and principles of writing clear, coherent, and well-developed paragraphs and short essays. Additional topics include the conventions of grammar, usage, and mechanics, as well as the comprehension, summary, and analysis of various types of texts. Not open to students with credit for ENGL 0190 or higher.
Lecture: 3 hours – Lab: 2 hours
Prerequisite: By placement exam      
Lab fee: $7.00

Independent learning style

You must be able to work independently and take ownership in your work. You must also be disciplined enough to set aside the time necessary to be successful in this type of course.

You will need a dependable ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Note for Mathematics Students Using AOL: A student using America Online 4.0 will need to upgrade to America Online 5.0 or higher to use ALEKS. This can be done from AOL.
