Proficiency Testing
Communication Department Proficiency Test Procedures
The Communication Department offers proficiency tests for the following courses:
- COMM 105 Speech
- COMM 115 Oral Interpretation
- COMML 200 Business Communications
- COMM 204 Technical Writing
Procedures for taking the test differ slightly. All require the student to set aside a two or three hour block of time between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; all require the student to have successfully completed any necessary prerequisites to the course before scheduling the exam; and all require the payment of the proficiency exam fee of $50 per test prior to taking the examination. The exam fee may be paid at the Cashier’s Office in the top floor of Rhodes Hall, and the receipt must be brought to UN 048 and presented to the Communication Department office associate at the time of the examination.
COMM 105 and 115, 200 and 204 exams require the student to fill out an application, leave off materials, or pick up materials related to the specific test prior to paying fees and taking the test. These materials may be picked up at the secretarial station in UN 048.
