Journalism Curriculum
Journalism at Columbus State entered a new era with the February 2005 debut
of Cougar News, the college's first student newspaper in more than 30 years.
Cougar News is published weekly during Autumn, Winter and Spring quarters, and
is written, edited and designed by Columbus State students. Cougar News is
funded through advertising sales, giving the paper editorial independence from
the college.
Students with a background in journalism--or who want to build their credentials--are invited to participate in Cougar News. Students who wish to earn college credit for working on the paper may enroll in ENGL 280, although ENGL 280 is not required for Cougar News participation.
Students who want to develop their journalism skills are invited to enroll in COMM 208, Communication for the Mass Media. COMM 208 introduces students to the fundamentals of journalism, and explores public relations and marketing.
