A History of Success
With 50 years of success under our belts and opportunity beyond measure ahead, the college often references historical projects and data to guide current decision making. A few examples include the Academic Quality Improvement Program AQIP, the Foundations of Excellence, and the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE).
Over the last few years, a number of student success initiatives have launched. We’ve implemented a First Year Experience class, increased tutoring offerings, and developed an innovative Math 1099 program, which allows students to work through remedial courses at their own pace. And we haven’t stopped there.
In 2012, we joined Achieving the Dream (AtD), a national reform network dedicated to community college student success and completion. Columbus State is using the principles and framework created by AtD to use an evidence-based approach to integrate and scale existing work at the college, and to facilitate new initiatives.
A Look Ahead: As part of the Central Ohio Compact, Columbus State is committed to the goal that 60 percent of Central Ohioans will have a postsecondary degree or certificate by 2025. Student success is also woven into our Facilities Master Plan and is a top priority for the college.
