“Titanic” theater awards
Columbus State instructor and student win regional theater
awards for Titanic
Titanic: A Retrospective, a play produced by Theater Columbus State last season, was the winner of three 2012 Central Ohio Theatre Roundtable Excellence Awards handed out Jan. 24.
Theater instructor Frank Barnhart was named Best Director. Student Julie Flynn was awarded Best Costume Design. Flynn is a sophomore Arts and Sciences major with a theater emphasis. The full production was named Best Play of 2012. Titanic: A Retrospective was performed for the first time last February.
Barnhart created the original stage play to commemorate the historic 100-year anniversary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic. It featured several passengers who were on board the ship. Using transcripts from the American and British trials, signed affidavits from survivors and witnesses, and news stories from national and international papers, the play was presented as a “docudrama.” All words spoken were the actual words of eyewitnesses to history.
