Goal Planning

Employee Planning Guide Due: Friday, Nov.11, 2016

Manager's Final Approval Due: Friday, Dec. 23, 2016

The Planning Guide is a goal planning task that guides:

  • employees to create goals for the next performance cycle, and
  • managers to amend and/or approve employee goals.

This goal-writing task is completed in partnership between the manager and employee. The following sections are included in the Planning Guide:

  • Goals: Create at least one performance goal in each of these areas:
      • Key Responsibilities (major job duties)
      • Operational Goals
      • Professional Development Goals
      • Service Goals
  • Competency Planning: Review the competencies which will be rated at the annual review.
  • Feedback: Suggest help or support needed to complete goals.

After the employee submits the Planning Guide, it will be reviewed and approved by the employee's manager. Once approved, these goals can be documented in the "Goals" area found under the "Performance" tab in the Cornerstone Performance Management system.

See the Goals page for definitions of types of goals, writing in the SMART format and guidance on documenting and managing goals.
See the Competencies page for descriptions of employee competencies.
See below for read more about the Feedback section.
