2013 CCSSE Survey

Key Findings Report (PDF)

Published by CCSSE, this gives a summary of our overall engagement category scores, and highest and lowest survey item scores, compared to the cohort. (PDF)

All Students

Frequencies (PDF | Excel)
Frequency reports present the observed frequencies of occurrence (counts and percentages) of the values for each survey item, excluding demographic survey items. These reports are useful for understanding how data are distributed across response categories.

Means (PDF | Excel)
Means reports present an average for each survey item that has scaled responses (e.g., strongly agree to strongly disagree) and compare average item responses between member colleges and various groups. Means are not run on dichotomous items: those with only two response options (e.g., yes/no; enrolled/not enrolled). These items are summarized in the frequency reports.

Engagement Benchmarks (PDF)
Benchmark reports consist of tables showing the college's scores on each benchmark, followed by means and frequency tables of items in each benchmark. Benchmarks are used to compare each institution’s performance to that of similar institutions and with the CCSSE Cohort.

Less Than Full-Time & Full-Time Enrollment Status

These reports display responses by enrollment status. Note that a student's enrollment status is self-reported on the survey. CCSSE assumes part-time students are underrepresented in the sample and adjusts their weight accordingly.

2013 Faculty Survey (CCFSSE) Reports

CCFSSE reports enable participating institutions to view faculty perceptions of student engagement alongside student responses. The side-by-side tables, while illustrative, are not entirely equivalent -- that is, CCSSE asks students to report about their experiences across the period of the current academic year, while faculty are asked to describe their practices in a specific selected course, as well as to indicate their perceptions of student experiences at the college more generally.

Use this Crosswalk Guide to compare related student and faculty survey questions.

Student and Faculty Frequency Distribution for comparable items  (PDF | Excel)
This report summarizes the observed frequencies of occurrence (counts and percentages) of the values for generally equivalent items from  faculty (part-time, full-time, and all faculty) on CCFSSE, and all student data.

Faculty Frequency Distributions for faculty-only questions  (PDF | Excel)
This report summarizes the observed frequencies of occurrence (counts and percentages)  for all faculty survey items that do not appear on the student survey. Data are presented for part-time, full-time, and all faculty respondents.

Faculty Promising Practices Frequency Distribution (PDF | Excel)

This report summarizes the observed frequencies of occurrence (counts and percentages) from the Promising Practices faculty survey items. Data are presented for part-time, full-time, and all faculty.

2013 Survey of Entering Student Engagement

Key Findings Report (PDF)
The booklet provides college-specific data in an easy-to-read and easy-to-share format including: benchmark comparisons between your college, top-performing colleges, and the SENSE cohort; highlights of the aspects of highest and lowest student engagement at your college; and selected results from five SENSE special-focus module items on Promising Practices.
