Reducing the stigma of mental illness

During October, in recognition of Disability Awareness Month, Disability Services placed boxes where students, faculty, and staff were encouraged to complete this sentence: “To me, mental illness means…” The anonymous comments are collected on the Disability Services webpage and on posters around the campuses. In line with the mission of Disability Awareness Month, these posters are one way to inform the college community and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
