Theatre Columbus State summer play preview

This week, Theatre Columbus State presents “The Contemporary American’s Guide to a Successful Marriage © 1959.” Set against the backdrop of the late 1950s and told in the style of the social guidance films of that era, the play follows two young couples from courtship to matrimony, and ultimately to what comes after. Performances will take place July 19 – 22 at 8:00 p.m. and at 3:00 p.m. on July 20. All shows are in Nestor Hall and free of charge.

Disability Services, in partnership with the Interpreter Education Program, will interpret Friday evening’s 8:00 p.m. performance.

Columbus restaurant company and owner to be honored at Taste the Future

scene at Taste the Future

Columbus State’s 28th annual Taste the Future culinary showcase and fundraiser will honor a well-known restaurant group and its owner. Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) was founded by Cameron Mitchell in 1993. Over the years, his company has built a diverse portfolio of varied concepts, ranging from multi-location upscale destinations to single neighborhood favorites.

Since its founding, CMR has had a long-standing relationship with Columbus State by hiring graduates who are starting their professional careers. In addition, several members of the CMR leadership team received their education from Columbus State. The knowledge and skills they gained at the college has been invaluable in mentoring other CMR associates.

Company leaders, including CMR President David Miller and Rusty Bucket President Gary Callicoat are also members of the Columbus State Foundation Board. Cameron Mitchell is currently chairing a capital campaign to raise funds for a new home for Columbus State's School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts.

More than serving as the largest culinary event in Columbus, proceeds from Taste the Future support student success at Columbus State. Taste the Future has now grown to host over 1,300 people and 50 food stations.  And many of the participating establishments at the event feature graduates of the Columbus State Culinary Apprenticeship program, including Barcelona, Marcella’s, The Blackwell Inn, and Lindey’s.

To purchase tickets or learn more about the event, visit www.tastethefuture.com. Taste the Future will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 6 - 9 p.m. on the Columbus Campus.

New year, fresh start!

The new fiscal year began on July 1, and it’s the perfect time to create blanket purchase orders (BPO) with suppliers that you plan to use multiple times during the year. BPO’s provide several advantages over traditional purchase orders. In addition to being able to place orders by phone or email, a blanket purchase order can be increased or decreased throughout the fiscal year without having to create a budget transfer or create a new BPO. When a BPO needs to be increased or decreased, signature protocol is still in effect and the cost center manager will need to email the approval of the adjustment to purchasing@cscc.edu.

Questions regarding BPO’s and PO’s can be sent to purchasing@cscc.edu.

Designate your backup approver

A reminder to Cost Center Managers: If you are going to be out of the office for more than a couple of days, please designate a backup approver in your absence. The backup approver could be responsible for approving Colleague requisitions, OfficeMax Supply orders, travel requests/expense, invoices and other financial forms. To designate a backup approver, send an email to Darrin Albaugh and include the designee name, start date, end date and any specific instructions.
